Last January I talked about the new tender for the production of animated short films aimed at the promotion and spreading of the Sardinian language with a target of 0-17 years old. Well, time passed, and in June the names of the winners of the tender and the short films’ titles were announced!
I will talk about each short film specifically in their own article, creating a miniseries of entries on the blog, analyzing the artist teams that will work on these projects.
Here are the projects:
- "28 abrile 1794: sa die de sa Sardinia" (history, archaeology and legends of Sardinia)
- "Pensaci" (flora and fauna)
- "Il volo di Aquilino" (distinguished Sardinian characters)
- "Faulas si credia" (anthropology, tradition and art)
- "La rondine" (sustainability, climate change and quality of life)
Theme: history, archaeology and legends of Sardinia
"28 abrile 1794: sa die de sa Sardinia"
This short film will tackle the history of the uprisings known as “Vespri sardi” that lead to banishing the viceroy and the Piedmontese officers from Cagliari and Sardinia. The goal is to celebrate and make it easier to get to know historical figures such as Vincenzo Cabras and Efisio Siotto Pintor, Vincenzo Sulis, Giovanni Maria Angioy and Francesco Ignazio Mannu.
The product will be made with 2D animation technique, directed and animated by Bruno Olivieri, written by Francesco Cheratzu and Daniele Mocci, produced by Condaghes. In order to figure out what kind of product we’ll see, let’s take a look at Bruno Olivieri’s art.
Page from kids comic "Paky" |
Bruno Olivieri is a cartoonist and journalist. From his website we find his experience in the animation field:
He collaborated to the creation of some animated shorts as "Dopo Tren'anni Prima", produced by I.S.R.E. Nuoro and "I Cartoni dello Zecchino d'Oro" for channels "RAI Italian Television" and as co-author and author of several shows for local radio and Tv broadcasters as "Videolina", "Radiolina" and "Radio Press".
On his youtube channel there are several examples of his works, here we have a sweet animation from last Christmas.
Francesco Cheratzu worked on four books in Sardinian published by Condaghes: Su patriottu sardu a sos feudatarios (1991, historical research with Pier Ausonio Bianco), Su chistionu de s´allega (1995, curator), La terza Irlanda. Gli scritti sulla Sardegna di Carlo Cattaneo e Giuseppe Mazzini (1995, curator) and the children’s book Sa paristória de Bakis (2006, author).
Daniele Mocci wrote as well for Condaghes the book L’ultimo giorno di primavera, a fantasy coming of age story for kids. He’s known for writing many comics and strips with several publishers. With the artist Luca Usai he created many series, such as Lo Straniero Senza Nome (Fumo di China), Super Pro and Marcello e Sofia (Gaghi Editrice), also for a French publisher he wrote the bande dessinée Carrion (Clair de Lune).
On one hand, we have an expert of Sardinian history, on the other there is an author with a lot of experience in different types of narration, together with a multifaceted artist with several styles. Personally I believe that this good team will give us a memorable product!
The next short film I will analyze will be “Pensaci”, that represents the theme of flora and fauna, stay tuned!
